Response to Ikki's burner
Ikki's previous discussions have sparked my contemplation on the significance of collecting items. I find fulfillment in the act of amassing objects. The process itself grants me a sense of tranquility that is hard to come by. Recently, I was awarded a medal, which has enabled me to dedicate more time to painting rather than wasting time on Tiktok videos. It got me thinking that perhaps finding ways to get away from the restless internet was also an important thing to do.

I found this photo of historical artifacts that I took in a museum, they are incense burners from different dynasties. While I don't recall all the artifacts on display, the lasting memory I have is the profound sense of inner peace that enveloped me as I stepped into the museum. It was reminiscent of the serene feeling one experiences when lighting an incense burner, observing the gentle ascent of smoke, and inhaling its fragrant aroma. Roaming amidst the art pieces, I discovered a profound peace of mind that resonated within me.
Inspired by the form of incense burners, I plan to create a wire-based installation artwork. Drawing inspiration from ancient Chinese landscape paintings, I aim to integrate the metal material of wire with the theme of landscapes.

By using wire, I will construct the shapes of mountains and rivers, showcasing the winding paths and flowing currents. To enhance the three-dimensional aspect of the artwork, I will employ overlapping layers, creating distinct outlines and a sense of depth within the landscape. The durability of wire allows for precise
representation of the rugged texture of mountains while also offering flexibility to depict the fluidity of water. To add vibrancy to the piece, I will incorporate materials such as cotton thread and pearls, intertwining them with the wire to symbolize lush trees. Through attention to detail, I aim to enrich the artwork with texture and layers.

My goal extends beyond showcasing the beauty of landscapes using wire. It is also about breaking free from the influence of muscle memory and learning to master various materials. By transforming rigid wire into dynamic representations of landscapes, I aim to explore new possibilities in artistic creation and convey the vitality and power of nature.

This installation artwork primarily conveys my concerns and reflections on the negative impact of information overload from internet in modern society. In daily life, I often feel pressured and anxious, unable to escape the busyness and distractions. Through this artwork, I aspire to create a space for viewers that enabling them to momentarily distance themselves from the noise and immerse in the beauty of landscapes, reconnecting with inner peace and serenity.

In summary, I believe that this wire-based installation artwork will take viewers on a journey of the Chinese traditional landscape culture, allowing them to seek moments of inner peace amidst the era of information overload.

WomBatty used 150 days to started from zero basis and quickly entered the world of drawing faster than anyone could have imagined. In this interview, he shares his personal experiences with me

Jiaqi: How did you learn to draw? How can beginners find their own style?
WomBatty:Like math and physics, artists should learn the history and read books about it. Break free from limited aesthetic experiences. Don't rely only on anime, which is just a digestion of masters' works. For example, to learn from a certain writer, read what they read. Rather than just their own works. Refer to those who have left their name in the art history. Seek advice from different artists and train your visual perception.

Jiaqi:Does training vision mean improving drawing skills first? Should one improve their drawing skill to a level where they don't make mistakes before considering crating original works? Sometimes I think my level is good enough, and imitating others won't bring progress. But most of time I often feel stuck because of my arrogant.
WomBatty:
Well, many people may think that Copying masters' work may limit creativity and personal style of an artist, but beginners with weak foundations have limited visual knowledge and drawing techniques. So, let go of preconceived notions and learn from others to gain new perspectives. Instead of worrying, experience the whole process multiple times. It's fine to imitate others' steps without understanding the principles. Familiarize yourself with the process and tools. Don't worry if your drawings are terrible; everyone starts that way. Learn widely and find the most suitable methods. Technique and style should be means, not goals.

Jiaqi:Do you have any recommended exercises? How can artist practice color accuracy?
WomBatty:Try drawing realistically. Experiment with different brushes and textures since they can't be exactly the same. Gradually understand the subjective meaning of creating art that looks real. Through realism, I went from knowing nothing about drawing to quickly grasping the mechanics. I discovered interesting details in everyday objects that I never noticed before learning how to draw.

The artist no longer shares his work on social media because drawing is a hobby, not a professio for him. But he still help people in drawing exercise groups (like me).

"Resonating Landscapes"
For my artwork, I drew inspiration from the ancient painting "Thousand-Mile Rivers and Mountains,"During the initial design phase, keywords such as "flow" and "resonance" guided my creative process. I chose wire and foam as materials for their unique properties. Wire's malleability allowed me to shape the sculpture, while foam's high elasticity facilitated precise adjustments. The combination of strength and softness harmoniously merged to create a balanced effect. The interplay of light enhanced the sculpture's fluid aesthetics. The construction process involved carving grooves on a foam base and securing the wire in place with adhesive. Once the sculpting was complete, acrylic paint was used to add color to the wire.

This artwork aims to reflect the relationship between nature and contemporary life. In our modern society, genuine encounters with natural landscapes are rare, as our attention is often absorbed by electronic devices and modern technology. Through this artwork, I seek to find a spiritual connection with the painting techniques of ancient artists and explore new means of expression, providing my interpretation of landscapes. It represents a personal breakthrough and an exploration of new technologies. Through my artwork, I hope to convey a profound respect for nature and a reverence for traditional art, urging a renewed recognition and appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.
